It’s a sigh of relief for Tanzanians after new fuel prices took effect, bringing down the cost of petrol, diesel and kerosene across the country.
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) says the revised retail cap prices, effective July 1, 2026, reflect easing global oil prices and lower import costs, delivering on recent government promises of price relief.
In Dar es Salaam, petrol is now retailing at Sh3,990 per litre, diesel at Sh4,182, and kerosene at Sh4,443. EWURA says the cuts represent month-on-month reductions of Sh96 for petrol, Sh151 for diesel, and Sh242 for kerosene compared to June.
The regulator says the adjustment follows improved global supply conditions, including the reopening of key shipping routes after a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, which has helped ease pressure on the Strait of Hormuz. Refineries have also resumed sourcing crude oil from less volatile regions, stabilising supply chains that had previously driven prices to record highs.
The reduction is already being felt by motorists, transport operators and businesses, many of whom say the move will ease pressure on transport and production costs.
Authorities say the change is part of EWURA’s routine monthly pricing review, which tracks international oil markets, exchange rates and import costs to align domestic prices with global trends.
The cut is expected to have a ripple effect on the cost of goods and services, offering wider relief to households nationwide
