President Paul Kagame is expected to pay a State visit to Botswana from May 6 to 7, 2026, at the invitation of Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko, in a move set to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The visit will be preceded by the second session of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC), scheduled for May 4 to 5, 2026, underscoring both countries’ commitment to structured and results-oriented cooperation.
The State visit is expected to mark an important milestone in the growing partnership between Botswana and Rwanda, building on progress made since Kagame’s 2019 State visit, which led to the establishment of the JPCC as a framework for deepening bilateral relations.
During the visit, the two leaders are expected to hold official talks on key areas of cooperation, including digital trade, tourism, animal vaccines, transport connectivity, and collaboration in the diamond value chain.
Several agreements are expected to be signed, particularly in trade and investment, institutional collaboration between the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), and an agreement to avoid double taxation to help facilitate trade and investment flows.
A business forum is also scheduled for May 5, 2026, bringing together stakeholders from both countries to explore new areas of partnership and investment.
President Kagame is expected to be accompanied by government ministers, senior officials, and a delegation of businesspeople.
