Advanced Drilling Programme Kicks Off at Rwanda’s Nyakabingo Tungsten Mine

Trinity Metals Expands Resource Mapping at Nyakabingo Mine in Rulindo

Trinity Metals has launched an advanced drilling programme at its Nyakabingo mine in Rulindo District, aimed at expanding mineral resources and strengthening long-term tungsten production.

Announced on Tuesday, May 26, the exploration campaign seeks to improve geological understanding of the site, including underground mapping and structural interpretation of mineralised zones. The company says the work will help determine whether mineralised veins extend deeper, thereby supporting long-term mine planning at the historic site, which has been operating since the 1930s.

The programme includes deep drilling reaching about 850 metres, marking the first major exploration campaign at Nyakabingo in decades.

Trinity Metals has appointed Isaac Emissary as Group Exploration Manager to oversee the project. Depending on results, the company may expand exploration across the wider licence area.

CEO Peter Geleta said the initiative will strengthen confidence in Nyakabingo’s long-term potential and improve resource planning.

Nyakabingo remains Africa’s largest tungsten producer, exporting mainly to Austria. The mine currently produces 100–110 tonnes of wolframite per month and is estimated to hold significant long-term reserves across its 1,600-hectare concession.
