KIGALI, Rwanda — Ecofleet has announced an ambitious plan to serve 50 percent of Rwanda’s public transport commuters within the next decade through a major expansion of its electric bus fleet and the rollout of digital transport solutions.
The company says the strategy is designed to improve the daily commuting experience by making public transport more efficient, environmentally friendly, and accessible as Rwanda’s urban population continues to grow.
As part of the initiative, Ecofleet is developing a real-time passenger information system that will enable commuters to track buses, view route schedules, and receive live arrival updates using digital platforms. The technology is expected to reduce waiting times and help passengers better plan their journeys.
The company believes combining electric mobility with smart transport technology will enhance the reliability of public transport services while contributing to Rwanda’s broader efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable urban mobility.
If implemented successfully, the expansion could significantly reshape public transportation in the country by increasing the availability of clean-energy buses, easing congestion on busy routes, and improving access to reliable travel information.
The announcement aligns with Rwanda’s long-term vision of transitioning to greener transport systems and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Electric buses are expected to play a growing role in lowering emissions, reducing operating costs, and improving air quality in urban areas.
Ecofleet’s goal of capturing half of the country’s public transport market reflects growing investment in sustainable mobility solutions as Rwanda continues to modernize its transport infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding urban population.
