Kenya is entering the final year before the 2027 General Election, with preparations already underway for a vote expected to shape the country’s political direction for the next five years.
The preparations include voter registration, verification of electoral details, polling station planning, deployment of election technology, and security arrangements ahead of the vote.
More than 2.6 million new voters have registered so far, expanding the electorate ahead of the election. However, voter participation remains a key concern, following a turnout of about 65 percent in the 2022 General Election.
The election is also expected to require significant public resources, with billions of Kenyan shillings needed to finance the electoral process, including logistics, technology, personnel and security.
As the countdown continues, voters are being encouraged to verify their registration details, understand the issues and candidates, and prepare to make informed choices when Kenyans head to the polls.
With only one year remaining, the preparations will increasingly come under scrutiny as political parties, electoral authorities and voters turn their attention to what is expected to be a closely watched 2027 election.
