Rwanda has marked a significant milestone in corporate governance with the graduation of its first cohort of internationally certified directors, a move aimed at strengthening leadership and enhancing governance standards across the country.
A total of 23 executives completed the certification programme delivered by the African Voice of Directors in partnership with the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom.
The programme was designed to equip senior leaders with advanced skills in corporate governance, strategic leadership, accountability, risk management, and board-level decision-making. Participants underwent training focused on international best practices to help improve oversight and performance in both public and private institutions.
Officials said the graduation represents an important step in Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen governance frameworks and build a pool of highly qualified directors capable of leading organizations in an increasingly complex business environment.
The certification is expected to enhance investor confidence by promoting transparency, accountability, and effective leadership within Rwandan institutions. It also aligns with the country’s broader ambition of positioning itself as a leading regional business and investment hub.
Governance experts have increasingly emphasized the role of skilled and independent directors in driving sustainable growth, attracting investment, and ensuring organizations remain resilient amid evolving economic challenges.
The newly certified directors are expected to contribute to improved governance standards across sectors, supporting Rwanda’s continued economic development and competitiveness on the regional and global stage.
