New signing expresses confidence in Police FC's title ambitions
Police FC’s new signing Djabel Manishimwe has acknowledged that winning the Rwanda Premier League title is a challenging endeavor, yet he remains optimistic about his team’s chances. The midfielder, who previously played for APR and Rayon Sports, made a significant impact in his debut match, contributing to Police’s 1-0 victory over Rutsiro FC on October 19, which helped the team maintain their perfect start to the season.
After four rounds of matches, Police FC sits at the top of the league table with 12 points. Manishimwe’s performance off the bench was crucial in securing the win, showcasing his ability to influence the game positively.
“I joined Police FC because of the coach’s project and his style of play,” Manishimwe stated. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and consistency in their pursuit of the championship. “We are here to work as a team, win as many matches as possible, and collect maximum points so we can stay ahead of others,” he added.
Manishimwe highlighted that while the goal is to win the league, the immediate focus should be on playing well and securing victories. “Our main target is to play good football and win as many games as possible. From there, you can start thinking about the title, which is our goal,” he noted.
He is aware of the competition posed by strong teams such as Rayon Sports and APR, who are perennial contenders in the league. “We know it will be tough against strong teams like Rayon Sports and APR, who are always contenders, but we are ready for them,” he remarked, indicating the team’s preparedness to face their rivals.
Manishimwe’s football journey began in 2014 when he joined Rayon Sports from Isonga FC. During his tenure at Rayon, he played a pivotal role in the club’s successes, including winning the 2016 Peace Cup and the league titles in 2016/17 and 2018/19. He also contributed to Rayon’s impressive run to the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.
In 2018, he made a move to APR FC, amidst rumors linking him to Kenya’s Gor Mahia. His career has since taken him to various clubs, including Mukura VS, USM Khenchela in Algeria, and brief stints in Iraq with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Naft Al Wasat, before returning to Rwanda to join Police FC.
Police FC continued their unbeaten streak with another narrow 1-0 victory, this time against Amagaju FC on October 19 at Kigali Pelé Stadium. The decisive goal was scored in the 77th minute by Dieudonné Ndayishimiye, who converted a cross from Lague Byiringiro, securing all three points for the team.
As the season progresses, Manishimwe’s experience and determination will be vital for Police FC as they aim to maintain their momentum and challenge for the league title.
