University of Rwanda Celebrates 2025 Graduation Ceremony

Over 9,500 Graduates Recognized for Academic Achievements

On Friday, October 17, 2025, the University of Rwanda held its 11th graduation ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of 9,526 graduates. This cohort included 4,204 females and 5,322 males, representing a diverse array of disciplines across the university’s various colleges.

Graduates by College

The graduates hailed from multiple colleges within the University of Rwanda. The College of Education contributed the largest number of graduates, with 2,554 students. Other colleges included the College of Science and Technology with 1,688 graduates, the College of Arts and Social Sciences with 1,006 graduates, the College of Business and Economics with 2,005 graduates, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences with 1,136 graduates, and the College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine with 981 graduates.

Highlights from the College of Arts and Social Sciences

Dr. Alphonse Muleefu, Acting Principal of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, reported that 968 undergraduates (652 males and 316 females) and 38 postgraduates (30 males and 8 females) were among the graduates. The School of Arts and Languages graduated 275 students, while the School of Governance, Development and Society had 552 graduates from ten programs.

Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Graduates

Dr. Guillaume Nyagatare, Principal of the College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, presented 1,092 graduates with Bachelor’s degrees. The College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Science had 942 undergraduates and 39 postgraduates, while the newly formed College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences graduated 150 undergraduates and six postgraduates.

Business and Economics Achievements

Dr. Joseph Nkurunziza, Principal of the College of Business and Economics, announced that 1,860 graduates (948 males and 912 females) received Bachelor’s degrees, with 145 postgraduates also recognized. The School of Business had 1,223 graduates, while the School of Economics contributed 637 graduates.

Education Graduates

Professor Dr. Florien Nsanganwimana, Principal of the College of Education, presented 2,432 undergraduates (1,289 males and 1,143 females) and 122 postgraduates. The School of Education awarded degrees to 2,085 graduates from 27 programs.

Health Sciences Graduates

Professor Abraham Haileamlak Mitike, Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, reported 906 undergraduates (577 males and 329 females) and 230 postgraduates. The School of Nursing and Midwifery graduated 174 students, while the School of Medicine and Pharmacy had 212 graduates.

Science and Technology Graduates

Associate Professor Ignace Gatare, Principal of the College of Science and Technology, presented 1,495 graduates (967 males and 528 females) and 193 postgraduates. The School of Engineering graduated 414 students, while the School of ICT had 322 graduates.

Reflections from Graduates

During the ceremony, Caleb Mitari, a graduate representative, emphasized the significance of the day, stating, “This day is not just a ceremony — it marks the peak of a long journey.” He expressed gratitude for the education received and pledged to contribute positively to society.

Pauline Otambo, a graduate from Kenya, highlighted the collaborative nature of the program, thanking the East African Community for its support in bringing together graduates from multiple countries.

University Leadership Insights

University of Rwanda Vice Chancellor, Didas Kayihura Muganga, encouraged graduates to embrace lifelong learning and to use their education to drive positive change in their communities. He acknowledged the importance of partnerships in enhancing student experiences and preparing them for future challenges.

The Chancellor, Patricia L. Campbell, congratulated the graduates and celebrated their resilience throughout their academic journey, urging them to utilize their education for the betterment of their communities.
