The Rwandan international scored in the 88th minute as Sabah FC claimed their first victory in the UEFA Champions League league phase against Slavia Prague.

Rwandan international Joy-Lance Mickels made history on Tuesday, October 13, scoring late as Azerbaijan’s Sabah FC defeated Czech side Slavia Prague 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League.

Mickels struck in the 88th minute to seal Sabah’s historic victory, becoming the first Rwandan player to score in the competition’s league phase, according to reports. Jamaican forward Kaheem Parris had opened the scoring in the 49th minute.
The win marked Sabah’s first victory in the Champions League league phase following their debut appearance in Europe’s premier club competition this season.

Mickels, 32, previously helped Sabah qualify for the league phase for the first time in the club’s history, scoring during their decisive qualifying-round victory in August.

His latest goal adds another milestone to Rwanda’s growing presence on the European football stage.
