Ambassador Charles Karamba took part in the 40th Quarterly Briefing of African Ambassadors hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), where diplomats were updated on the Commission’s major activities in 2025 and its planned work for 2026.

The session brought together permanent representatives accredited to ECA to exchange views on ongoing programmes ranging from economic policy support to regional cooperation initiatives. Ambassador Karamba used the occasion to acknowledge ECA’s contribution to several continental development efforts, noting its support during the Nuclear Innovation Summit held in Kigali from 30 June to 1 July.

The summit drew policymakers, scientists and energy experts to discuss Africa’s growing interest in advanced nuclear technologies and their potential role in closing the continent’s energy gaps.

Karamba also welcomed the prospects for closer engagement between ECA and the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB) as Rwanda continues to build capacity for the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology. He said such partnerships would reinforce national efforts aimed at promoting innovative, safe and sustainable applications of nuclear energy in line with Rwanda’s long-term development goals.

These remarks underscored the country’s and Africa’s in generalcommitment to advancing innovation and strengthening regional cooperation as it pursues its peaceful nuclear development agenda.
