The EAPCCO PLUS Joint SWAT Training Exercise is currently underway at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange, Rwanda, bringing together elite security personnel for an intensive regional preparedness program.
Running from 10 May to 28 May 2026, the exercise has assembled 73 officers drawn from seven Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) member states, including Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, Seychelles, and the Central African Republic (CAR).
The training focuses on strengthening counter-terrorism response capabilities, hostage rescue operations, tactical coordination, and rapid deployment techniques. It is designed to enhance interoperability among special weapons and tactics (SWAT) units in addressing evolving cross-border security threats.
Officials note that such joint exercises are critical in building trust, improving real-time coordination, and standardizing operational procedures among participating countries. The program also emphasizes scenario-based simulations, urban warfare tactics, and intelligence-led operations.
Beyond tactical skills, the exercise reinforces regional cooperation frameworks under EAPCCO, supporting collective efforts to improve security and stability across the Eastern African region and beyond.
