A significant partnership aims to promote combat sports and wellness in Rwanda.
On October 18, the BK Arena in Kigali was the venue for the exciting PFL Africa Championship, where FitnessPoint celebrated a key milestone in its collaboration with the Professional Fighters League (PFL). The event featured an engaging stand by FitnessPoint, which highlighted its commitment to promoting martial arts and fitness in Rwanda.
Throughout the day, FitnessPoint coaches conducted live demonstrations of various martial arts exercises, providing attendees with an interactive experience. The demonstrations not only showcased the skills of the coaches but also emphasized the brand’s expanding range of fitness services. This initiative reflects FitnessPoint’s dedication to enhancing the combat sports scene in Rwanda and beyond.
Ole Haugom, co-founder and CEO of FitnessPoint, spoke about the importance of the partnership with PFL Africa. He described it as a significant step in supporting professional fighters and advancing mixed martial arts (MMA) in Rwanda. Haugom stated, “We’re basically helping the fighters by giving them access to train at our gym. We even hosted female fighters at our facility for training and other events they want.”
Looking to the future, Haugom envisions the collaboration between PFL and FitnessPoint as part of a larger movement for the sport across the continent. He remarked, “It’s a great start; mixed martial arts is big all over the world, and it’s about time it comes to Rwanda too.”
Pascal Niyibizi, a coach at FitnessPoint, echoed Haugom’s sentiments, highlighting the broader impact of MMA’s growth on Rwanda’s sports landscape. He noted that the rising interest in boxing and martial arts is encouraging Rwandans to explore the offerings at FitnessPoint. “We have boxing classes here, and I’d really encourage people to learn and fall in love with the sport. I believe there will be many more opportunities to compete in boxing in Rwanda,” Niyibizi stated.
Niyibizi also emphasized the significance of the collaboration with PFL, describing it as a pivotal moment for both the gym and combat sports enthusiasts in Rwanda. “It’s a great image for FitnessPoint and shows that we’re doing professional-level sports here in Rwanda. As Rwandans, we’re lucky to have another sport added to those we already know — and one that could bring benefits in different ways,” he added.
The PFL Africa Championship not only served as a platform for showcasing martial arts but also reinforced FitnessPoint’s role in the development of combat sports in Rwanda. The event attracted a diverse audience, eager to learn more about martial arts and fitness opportunities available in the region.
As the partnership between FitnessPoint and PFL continues to grow, both organizations are optimistic about the future of mixed martial arts in Rwanda. The collaboration is expected to foster a new generation of fighters and enthusiasts, contributing to the overall growth of sports in the country.
