Rwanda’s capital Kigali will host the third edition of the FIBA AfroCan from July 2 to 11, 2027, with the tournament set to take place at BK Arena.
It will be the first time Rwanda hosts the continental national-team competition, which brings together players who compete in domestic leagues across Africa.
A total of 12 national teams will compete in the tournament, with qualification scheduled between September 2026 and June 2027.
Morocco are the defending champions, having won the 2023 edition in Luanda, Angola. Rwanda finished with the bronze medal at the same tournament.
The AfroCan is distinct from the FIBA AfroBasket, as it is designed specifically for national teams featuring players who primarily compete in domestic leagues within Africa.
Kigali’s selection adds another major basketball event to Rwanda’s growing international sporting calendar, with BK Arena having previously hosted major continental and global basketball competitions, including the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 qualifying tournament.
The 2027 AfroCan will allow Rwanda to compete on home court while bringing some of Africa’s leading domestic-based basketball talent to Kigali.
