The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) has suspended players Ntore Habimana and Axel Olenga Mpoyo for one year after they failed to honour a national team call-up ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
According to the federation, the players were summoned as part of Rwanda’s preparations for the qualifiers, where national team members are expected to assemble and respond to official duties when called upon. FERWABA said the two players had already been released by their club, but did not report for national team duty as required.
The federation said the decision is in line with FIBA regulations and resolutions of the FERWABA General Assembly, which require all selected players to comply with official national team call-ups.
FERWABA stressed that national team selection comes with responsibility, discipline and commitment, adding that players are expected to respect their obligations whenever they are chosen to represent the country.
The suspension means both players will be barred from all basketball activities under FERWABA’s jurisdiction for 12 months, effective immediately.
