A three-wheeled world record attempt is underway as two adventurers have successfully reached Africa on their ambitious journey to Cape Town.
Oliver Jenks, hailing from Newton Abbot in Devon, and Seth Scott, originally from Canada, departed London on October 24, traveling in their Reliant Robin, affectionately named “Sheila the three-wheeler,” as they aim to set a new world record. The challenging roads have made their presence; Oliver revealed that the journey had tested both them and their vehicle. “Sheila has endured a few knocks and scrapes from some of the roughest roads we have encountered, so she will need some repairs,” he said from Senegal.
The duo is currently undertaking a 10,000-mile (16,093 km) expedition to raise funds for the Yeovil-based charity, School in a Bag. Along their journey, they encountered a series of mechanical setbacks, including a particularly challenging moment in the Sahara Desert. Mr. Oliver recounted how the car’s exhaust system detached while they were deep in Mauritania. With limited options, they managed to locate a local mechanic who, despite being baffled by the unfamiliar vehicle, helped them reattach the exhaust.
Despite the car’s sluggish performance, Mr. Oliver remains upbeat. “She’s not the fastest right now, but we are still moving forward. As long as she keeps going, so do we,” he said, highlighting their determination to complete the journey no matter the obstacles.
Their journey is not just a test of endurance but a powerful statement of commitment to a cause that transforms lives. With unwavering determination, they are not only pushing the limits of their vehicle but also driving forward hope for children supported by School in a Bag.
