Flights operating to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport faced significant delays on Monday, February 16, after aviation workers began a go-slow that is expected to last a week.
According to the Kenya Airports Authority, the disruption stems from an ongoing labour dispute between the Kenya Aviation Workers Union and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. The authority said the industrial action has particularly affected air traffic control operations, leading to delays in both departures and arrivals.
Several airlines also issued notices to passengers, warning of schedule changes and longer waiting times. Kenya’s national carrier noted that the disruption followed a recent directive from the aviation regulator outlining measures to maintain safety and ensure continuity of services during the dispute.
Despite the challenges, KAA said contingency plans had been activated to manage the situation and minimize inconvenience. Passengers have been advised to check flight updates regularly and allow extra time when travelling through the airport.
The authority reiterated that safety remains a top priority and affirmed its commitment to maintaining smooth operations across all airports under its management while efforts continue to resolve the labour dispute.
