A parent from the Kisii region in southwestern Kenya gave birth to quadruplets and named them after the former Prime Minister of the country, Raila Odinga, and his wife.
The four children of Vane Nyanchoka are three boys and one girl. The boys were given the names Raila, Amollo, and Odinga, all derived from Odinga’s name. The girl was named Ida, after Raila Odinga’s wife.
In an interview with Kenya’s Citizen TV, Vane Nyanchoka said she decided to name her children after Odinga because of how much she admired him.
She added that she had only expected to have three children but was surprised to give birth to four, seeing the fourth child as a great blessing.
“I wasn’t expecting to give birth to four children. I realized this only after giving birth because before delivery, I thought I would have only three children,” she said.
Nyanchoka, who had previously given birth to twins, now has six children in total.
Her sibling, Everleen Ontweka, also confirmed that the names were chosen to continue honoring their hero, Raila Odinga, who recently passed away.
Raila Odinga served as Kenya’s Prime Minister and spent many years opposing the government. He died on October 15 after suffering a cardiac arrest while preparing to undergo eye treatment in India.
