Patience Mutesi Gatera has concluded her tenure as Managing Director of BPR Bank Rwanda, ending 45 months in the role after taking office in February 2023.
In a farewell message shared on October 31, Mutesi reflected on the bank’s transformation following its merger with KCB Bank Rwanda, highlighting improvements in customer confidence, financial performance and digital services.
Among the achievements she outlined was an increase in the bank’s total assets from RWF 747 billion at the end of 2022 to RWF 1.5 trillion by June 2026.
Customer deposits also grew by 136%, rising from RWF 526 billion to more than RWF 1 trillion over the same period. Loans to customers increased by 122%, from RWF 457 billion to more than RWF 1 trillion.
Mutesi said the bank’s Net Promoter Score, a measure of customer willingness to recommend a business, improved from 46 in 2023 to 88 by mid-2026, following the integration and upgrade of its core banking system.
She also pointed to increased shareholder returns, noting that BPR paid dividends in 2024 and 2025 for the first time since becoming a commercial bank in 2007.
The bank’s revenue rose from RWF 72 billion in 2022 to more than RWF 115 billion in 2025, while profit before tax increased from RWF 32 billion to more than RWF 58 billion over the same period. She said both indicators continued to grow in 2026.
Beyond financial performance, Mutesi highlighted the rollout of an integrated digital banking platform, the launch of a digital lending platform featuring MoFaya, and expanded financing initiatives targeting women-owned businesses, agriculture and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
She also credited partnerships with institutions including the International Finance Corporation, MTN MoMo Rwanda, the Development Bank of Rwanda, GIZ and other ecosystem partners for supporting trade, investment and cross-border business.
Mutesi thanked BPR’s Board of Directors, parent company KCB Group, employees, partners and customers for their support, describing her time at the bank as a period of professional growth and collective achievement.
As she leaves the institution, she said she would continue to follow its progress with pride, both as a customer and an ambassador.
